Very true about voter apathy. People seem to vote for lifestyle choices more than ideology. I worked hard for Obama but his persona was mysterious. He was soooo vague, which enabled him to win.

I look forward to discussing things with Federalist Society members. There are people who can talk politics and religion. My family is Roman Catholic now. They use politics and religion as a cudgel to hurt me. I keep telling them there are good reasons for the prohibition on politics and religion. It can be about the topic but often the topic is an excuse to exercise brute force. It is about power in relationships. People can disagree and be civil.
I have cried about my brother-in-law and nephew harassing me. My father picked on Catholics. One would think that the Society only hated Catholics. He spent endless hours writing antiCatholic diatribes, using Witness literature. He ached for the fight. Wives begged my mom to stop him from attacking their husband's faith b/c it was affecting their health. Numerous warnings from his employer did not stop him. He landed a big one -- a former Jesuit seminarian. It was all about the proper translation of soul. My father admitted defeat and spiralled into a depression. He never realized what trauma he inflicted on others.
This case is very sad. Trauma is real. He will get help. It seems that the physical injuries are nothing compared to the psychic ones. When 9/11 happened I lived downtown. It took years to return to normality. My confidence in the world is still lacking. I've always thought it strange how heroes on TV can live through multiple events each week w/ no harm. This person can't be a Witness b/c he voted for her.

Back to the Bible and Roy D. Goodrich
by RR ini was fortunately enough recently to purchased volumes 2 and 3 of roy goodrich's journal "back to the bible way" which covers 1957 - 1966. the journal was published from 1952 to 1973 and eventually reprinted in four volumes.
i had scattered issues.
i'm still missing volumes 1 and 4 to complete the set, as i am scanning each issue to make available, any help would be appreciated.. .

Does this have to do with Wilhelm Reich's orgone boxes for which he was tried for federal fraud charges?. I stumbled upon it writing a term paper. My mom says they or something similar was used at Barnard. I was shocked that a leading psycholoanalyst would believe that the power of the orgasm could be concentrated for healing purposes. My prof said several prominent professors at Columbia University used them. I was stunned.
There were several Bethel related items that never made it in a Watchtower or Awake. Aluminum was either good or bad. Vitamin supplementation was another one.
The amazon link sounds very interesting and fairly expensive.

Mesmerize - to hynoptize. It is hard to truly discern. Music in which you lose yourself but it is not drivel as in easy listening or muzak. Many songs I can argue each way. Rock music is problematic. The beat can consume me;
I have a Japanese flute music Cd with Jean Pierre Rampal. It is exquisite. Such a CD and the gregorian chants come closest to mesmerizing. I used it as a tape to learn biofeedback technique. I love it. So many relaxation tape music is just horrible. This is great. Minimalism could also be mesmerizing. John Cage. I don't like it. Most of all, I despise hip hop.

My childhood memories are so painful I can't detail them here and then go on functioning in my present life. When an adult choose a path, they have considered it. Horrible things were chosen for me. I had no say.
I go around showing almost anyone my Christmas tree photos. It seems bizarre that I could marry, have an education, not be tortured, not die during Armageddon. Anything I love doing has a strangeness around it after all these years.
My younger sister thinks I am daft. She was 8 when we left. I was 16. There is a long span of years in that calculation. Whever I am happy, I fear it will be seized from me.
I still mourn my childhood. My rage towards the WTS is outsized. I fought for baby sister when I was still a teen. My family was associated since Russell so I knew lots of juicy gossip existed along with the Witness rules. Loyalty to my family meant absolute loyalty to Jehovah.

Was Rutherford truly that charismatic? Perhaps even among the Witnesses absolute power corrupts absolutely. Would Monica Lewinsky have given old, old Bill Clinton a second glance were he not president? How about John Edwards' tramp? The one who doesn't believe in underpants but wants to be taken seriously.
Sisters had no power of their own. No ability to make a living. No ability to show their knowledge of WTS doctrine. It had to be appropriated through a man.
Aside from money, what allure would Rutherford pose to someone outside the society? I had conflicting thoughts about the saga of Monica and Bill. His private life is none of my business. On the other hand, he knew her age, knew her psychiatric history, and that she was abnormally smitten and a whore. Someone could take similar advantage of his own daughter. Chelsea was not better than Monica. During Congressional hearings it was both sad and comical b/c Monica insisted that she had nonsordid relationship. Her incredulity was amazing. The reps were blunt, explaining the power disparities and ethics. She insisted it was holy. The reps seemed to be ready to laugh at her.
What specialty of law did Rutherford practice before the WTS?
Contrary to Craig, allegedly soliciting gay bathroom sex, Clinton never painted himself as sexually responsible. The act isn't that bad. Rather, the sanctimonious nature is what makes it news. Married couples had to leave Bethel. When my parents married, the local KH shunned them.

My father was a bodyguard to Rutherford and Knorr. Somehow Rutherford had more heft in my father's mind. Knorr was very much a factory.organization man. He told my mom that a group of his friends had access to a spyhole and watched Rutherford be intimate with a sister (name my mom knew; I do not) all the while preaching celibacy. The relationship was clearly sexual.
He was full of stories of hypocrisy at Bethel but it did not dissuade him from believing Witness doctrine. There were several Bethelites in my family who made veiled references to nonchristian practices. They were troubled but remained faithful.
I was just a kid. My mother was adamant that I would never date, much less marry a Bethelite.

I could not care less whether Jesus died on a cross or stake. The important matters are the nature of Christ, was he fully human, fully God or some hybird. Was he resurrected from the dead is the one essential for me. Paul speaks of the folly of the cross. Fools for Christ for believing a condemned criminal was God and resurrected. I have doubts. The apostles'' behavior leads me to have some belief. They are clueless and thick. No one can even wait in the Garden of Gethsame with him. They show repeated lack of understanding of his teachings which can be confusing. Something happened to these men to become powerful advocates of Christ.
I don't care about a cross or stake. It doesn't matter what color his garb was, nor whether his hair was short nor whether he was clean-shaven. His resurrection matters. Without the resurrection, He is only another in long lines of do gooders and prophets. All this discussion takes away from the central point of the Gospels. People back then were not idiots. If it were important, many chapters would be devoted to cross vs. staken, even in rudimentary Mark. Does it matter what he had for breakfast?
The Witnesses use such discussions to bestow faux legitimacy on their teachings. People without savvy may be impressed. Paul never engages in a theology of cross vs. stake. The Gnostics could not care whether it was a stake or cross. The physicality of his act was denied. He only appeared to be crucified and resurrected. They can't seem to stick to their central thesis. Frankly, I don't know who the heck Jesus actually is in Witness teachings. A casual reader should know the status of Jesus. Why don't we ask whether Jesus drank Pepsi or Coke? Did his mother only wear blue?

It is important to me to know the strategy behind these cases. The civl rights movement was active in these years. I'd want to know how the ACLU provided help. Was the national ACLU involved or the local affiliates? Did one ACLU lawyer provide the services? Was the plan cohesive or ad hoc? What obstacles existed in jurisprudence to acknowledging the Witness claims? Did the surrounding culture change? Was Hayden Covington a major strategiest or mostly a front man?
This was supposed to be my senior thesis but I could not cope with exploring the Witnesses and finish school. Someone wrote a PHD dissertation on this. I can't wait to get access.
